The player's movement is faster and agile. Most of the tactics revolve around: Shoot fast and dodge the bullets. In Stranglehold, you do not have time to think. ![]() You have to think before diving out of a cover. The combat encourages the player to take a very careful approach, considering enemy positions and level blockings. The player and enemy movements are relatively realistic. Individual enemies are tough and can quickly drop you. Max Payne games encourage slower-paced combat. However, Stranglehold is an incredibly fast-paced fanatic where countless enemies are swarming toward the player that requires a twitch response. This is why games like The Last of Us, Halo, and Metal Gear work so well for the controller because they are methodically paced games that often force the player to utilize covers. The controller is generally optimized for slower-paced shooters. The console might not be the best platform to enjoy Stranglehold. While Stranglehold borrows heavily from Max Payne, once played it, you may quickly realize it is fundamentally a different beast. One the first glance, Stranglehold seems not that different from Max Payne games, which are some of my all-time favorite third-person shooters. ![]() I have watched John Woo movies and played Max Payne series ever since, so I got curious how it would hold up. I have not played since, but recently, I purchased the XBOX 360 version from EB Games for $1.50. I remember loving the game despite not familiar with John Woo's films nor Max Payne at the time, which were all inspirations behind Stranglehold. ![]() I have already played this game a long time ago on PC.
